Retro Style

After the gloomy and dark times of the 1940s war period, the 50s and the 60s bought with it a temperament of fun which resulted in brighter and bolder interiors.

After the war a lot of new materials had come into being in 50s and 60s which led to a lot of changes in the way people lived for example Formica, Plastic, Fiberglass and plywood. The mood was flamboyant, risky and fun which led to more color schemes and bolder prints.

Consider pairing up fuchsia pink to a sunshine yellow or turquoise.

Highly polished chrome on furniture and ornamental fixtures. Till then the furniture had started looking funky and abstract with a lot of bold colors. Teak and Pine wood had become very popular but mostly one saw low lying furnitures with odd coffee table shapes and disposable cardboard materials. A person no longer had to stick to furniture for years and years. One could change the look of the space as often as possible.

No one could possibly forget the G-PLAN furniture. That was the scream that time. Every house had it. In the 50s people loved bold patterns for wallpapers and fabrics, but for furniture they preferred the elegant look -  Furniture floating above the floor with long slender legs. But till the 60s people's home saw a change to country cottage pine and blow up chairs. The classic retro style is seen in long, low teak sideboards and coffee table. By the 70s the love affair with the teak and rose wood had started.The fabric had started coming in loud colors and fun patterns something that screams for ones attention.

Space age had also entered by the 50s and the 60s which meant planes and planets basically anything that reminded one of space had become a popular element in wall clocks for every fashionable house! Besides this any accessory which was bold and colorful enough to catch a person's eye was in.

The beginning from the past

I worked in a lot of construction firms but somehow the whole idea of incorporating someone else's styles into the project that i worked in did not quite appeal to me. I wanted my own sense of style and the freedom to experiment and explore the designing world. And the fact that i could not do all this working under someone led me to this. A new beginning where not only could i just express through my designs but also have the freedom to experiment and explore styles which were probably long lost in our history.

I do not only follow the modern mundane straight line concepts but still believe in those colonial designs and that oomph factor of the Victorian era where on a table pointy edges did not exist but a beautifully crafted face of a woman. And why should a person concentrate only at the classic looks I have always wanted to give certain spaces that touch of fun like a country side raw look by making all the furniture in white cane and those bold flower motif wallpaper. Not to forget the retro era, the post war 50s and the very psychedelic 60s.

I as a designer cannot stick to same simple designs. I love to explore all the eras, designs which already exist and designs which are forgotten.
